The
Whistlefield is a traditional Drover's Inn situated on an old cattle droving
trail leading from the West Highlands to the markets of Central Scotland. The
oldest part (now our beer cellar!) dates from 1455 but the main central range
of the building was completed in 1663.
It was not until the middle of the 19th century and the appearance of Victorian
tourists en route from the Clyde to Loch Fyne that the inn was further expanded
with the addition of the existing front range. This was followed at the turn
of the century with our Edwardian lounge. Today, the appearance and character
of the Whistlefield are protected by Historic Scotland which has designated
the building as 'B' Listed.
